In our previous tutorial we showed you how to reset admin password using the phpMyAdmin but today we’ll trying to reset the password with different ways like Reset WordPress Password with Email, Reset through FTP or by using the Emergency Password Reset Script.
Reset WordPress Password With Recovery Email
If you forget your WordPress password then the recovery email is the best and easiest way to sign back in. You can reset your password by the primary email which you use during the WordPress installation. Just follow the simple steps and you will again able to access the WordPress admin dashboard again by using the new password.
First of all Go to your WordPress admin login area page http://www.yoursite.com/wp-login.php. Now click on the “Lost your Password” link to proceed the next step. It should be something like or going to the wp-admin folder works as well as it will redirect to the wp-login.php script.
In next page Enter your WordPress administrative username or email address which is associated with your WordPress Admin account. After entering the username or e-mail hit the get new password button. WordPress will send you a link to create a new password via email.
Now login to your email account and find the e-mail from the WordPress. Open the email and press the link which you received from the WordPress. In next page WordPress ask you to enter your new password. Write your new password and hit the reset password button.
Note : If the email is not present you can check spam or junk folder as well.
Reset WordPress Password through Functions.php
You can also reset your password by using the FTP protocol. Just download and install any FTP client like Filezilla or any other. Login to your cPanel account. Navigate to the Files Menu > FTP Accounts. Create a new account and login to your site via FTP and download your active theme’s functions.php file. Edit the downloaded functions.php file and add the below code in to beginning, after the first <?php:
wp_set_password( ‘new password here’, 1 );
Now set your new password for admin user in “new password here” field. The “1” is the user ID number in the wp_users table. You can get a user ids information in phpMyAdmin menu. After editing the file, upload back to your site and login to your admin area via new password after successfully login to the admin area go back and remove that code from the functions.php file.
Reset WordPress Password through Emergency Password Reset Script
Go to the following URL Emergency Password Script and copy the code. Now create a text file in your computer and paste the code in it and set a file extention as emergency.php in the root directory of your WordPress installation.
Now In your browser, open http://yoursite.com/emergency.php.
Now enter the right administrator username and set new password for your site, then click Update Options. After clicking the update options a message is displayed “nothing the changed password”. Now open your email Address and check the email with the changed password information.
After the successful operation delete emergency.php file from the root directory of your server. In order to save your self from unathourized access.
